History, A Level

For History A Level, you will delve into the rich tapestry of human events and explore the complexities of the past. This course will equip you with a deep understanding of historical processes, events, and individuals that have shaped societies and cultures. By studying history, you will gain insights into the causes and consequences of major historical events, as well as their relevance to contemporary issues.

As part of the course, you will have the opportunity to attend lectures and talks by historians and experts in the field. These sessions will provide valuable insights into different historical perspectives and interpretations, enhancing your critical thinking skills. To further develop your understanding of history, you will participate in field trips to significant historical sites and museums. These excursions will bring history to life, allowing you to witness firsthand the impact of past events on the landscape and built environment.

When you study with us, you will gain access to our Career Excellence Hub, which offers additional opportunities to enhance your career prospects. Alongside your core subjects, you will have the chance to engage in work experience placements during June of your first year and February of your second year. We will assist you in finding suitable placements that align with your career aspirations or provide a week of tailored experiences within the College to broaden your skillset.

In the first year of the course, you will follow a pathway that aligns with your career goals. Options such as debating or challenging the past will provide you with additional skills and experiences to enrich your career prospects in related fields. These specialised pathways will deepen your understanding of historical methodologies and introduce you to specific areas of historical study. Our dedicated Tutor Learning Mentors will focus on helping you develop effective study skills and exam preparation strategies, and you will be given assistance and guidance for interviews, whether you are applying to university or seeking employment opportunities in history-related fields.
