This is the advanced course to gain if you are looking for a rewarding career working with children in a nursery, school, or pre-school environment, or if you are already working in an early years, setting and are looking to increase your knowledge and training, then this is the ideal course for you, it is also a natural progression from the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner, if you have GCSE Level 4 and above in English or functional skills Level 2.

You will develop your knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of topics that apply to early years settings. More than just increasing your knowledge of the theory and principles of early years practice, you will also develop your practical and applied skills by working, volunteering, or taking part in a practical placement in a suitable setting, as an important part of your assessment process.

Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as an Early Years Educator.

We will cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in Early Years Setting

  • Plan and Provide Effective Teaching and Learning in Early Years Setting.

  • Make accurate use and productive Use of Assessment in Early Years Setting.

  • Develop Effective and Informed Professional Practice in Early Years Settings.

  • Child Protection and Safeguarding

  • Partnership Working Early Years

  • Understanding how to promote Play and Learning in the Early Years

  • Support Children’s Outdoor Play

  • Understand the needs of children who are Vulnerable and experiencing poverty and disadvantage.

  • Observation

Assessment Method

This course is assessed through coursework and observational assessment in the workplace.

Entry Requirements

A work placement in a setting with children under the age of 5 Nursery, preschool, childminder or reception class of at least 12 hours per week must be organised for the start of the course and run alongside the entirety of the course.

English functional skills Level 2 or GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above is a requirement. Maths is no longer a requirement, but we strongly advise if you don’t have this, you upskill your maths alongside the main course.
