PLUMBING COURSES FOR 16-19 YEAR OLDS
Plumbers fit and service hot and cold-water systems, heating systems and drainage networks.
SALARIES: range from £15,000 to £40,000 a year dependent on experience.
As a plumber, you’ll:
- Find out from the customer what the problem is.
- Give time and cost estimates for jobs.
- Install water, drainage and heating systems.
- Cut, shape and join pipes and fittings
- Find and fix faults
- Service gas and oil-fired central heating systems and radiators.
- Install or repair domestic appliances like showers and washing machines
- Respond to emergency callouts, like boiler breakdowns or blocked drains
- Fit weather-proof materials, joints and flashings to roofs, chimneys and walls
You could work at a client’s home or at a client’s business. Your working environment may be cramped, at height and outdoors some of the time.
WE CAN GET YOU ON THE RIGHT QUALIFICATION
Below you will see you have a couple of options. You can apply for the vocational qualification (full-time course in the campus workshops) there is no need to pick a Level (Level 1, 2 or 3) as this depends on your grades which will be discussed during enrolment, OR you can apply for an apprenticeship where you will be based in the workplace. CAREER PATH FOR PLUMBING
You can develop your skills by taking further training in areas like heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, and renewable energy technologies like solar powered heating.
You can also join the Gas Safe Register or get certified with the Oil Firing Technical Association (OFTEC). These would show you’re qualified to work on gas or oil-fired appliances.
You could go on to study for a higher national diploma or degree and become an engineer. This could lead to career options in building services engineering, estimating and contract management.
You could also get involved in training apprentices or progress to teaching in a further education college.

We also offer a Construction T Level programme, which is a mixture of college and work-based learning designed to give you the technical skills and workplace experience to kick-start your construction career.
Technical areas of study could include Surveying, design, civil engineering, planning and emerging technologies such as drone surveying and BIM.
An apprenticeship is a fantastic way of entering the construction industry. Not only will you get the opportunity to get your foot in the door with a local or national company, you will also be able to earn while you learn.
Through apprenticeships you will work closely with an experienced tradesperson to develop and practice your skills, all whist receiving the benefits that being a student brings.
