This course provides a perfect introduction to plumping for you if you’re a school leaver (16-19) and looking to begin a career in the field, and will teach all the knowledge and skills you’ll need to secure a successful career.
This course is appropriate for learners of all levels looking to study Plumbing, as it will develop your skills and knowledge to an advanced level, through practical experience and displaying the situations you could face and how to overcome them. Plumbers have the skills to maintain and repair systems and fixtures, by cutting, assembling and welding fixtures, then inspecting to ensure the safety and quality of their work.
Day-to-day, the job may be physically demanding, but it is financially rewarding as there is regularly a high demand for plumbers. As a Weston College student you will become part of our exciting new Career Excellence Hub in Plumbing. This means you will take part in a study programme with lots of career boosting benefits, all with the aim of giving you the opportunity to become career ready!
You will learn about maintaining pipe systems and components; health and safety at work; materials; storing and pricing; hot and cold water; central heating; sanitation and roof weathering systems.
As part of this study programme, you will develop your maths and English skills, attend tutorials and Individual Development (ID). You will also complete a work placement or extended industry placement. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview.
Assessment Method
You will be assessed through practical observations, written assignments and a portfolio.

Entry Requirements
There are multiple levels available to study, with the minimum requirements being five GCSEs at grade 3-1 including at least two at grade 3, or a pre-vocational programme. To make sure we put learners on the right programme to support hem achieve their career goal we take into account a variety of things when deciding the right programme and level for the learner.
Therefore in our construction area, your starting point will depend not only on your grades, but any prior experience of that specific trade, your college interview and approach at events such as Welcome Day and induction. All of this will be discussed with you during at your college interview and you will leave this with a clear understanding of what your starting point will be.
