Sensory Learning
A purpose-built, safe, self-contained, specialist facility at Weston College’s Knightstone Campus for students with Profound and Complex Learning Disabilities (PCLD).
Where appropriate to the individual, students will also be able to access the many other student facilities across the College, including the library and Bistro.
The provision will be delivered by specialist staff with expertise in areas including: • Sensory approaches to learning • Communication and intensive interaction • Autism spectrum • Positive behaviour support • Person-centred approaches • Recognising and recording progress and achievement.
The curriculum will be individualised and will focus on a combination of sensory approaches, combined with living skills.
The curriculum will be individualised and focuses on a combination of sensory approaches to support learning and development of functional skills, including:
- Independent living skills
- Cooking
- Community access
- English, maths and IT.
Communication is supported using a total communication approach with the support of speech and language therapy where required.
Staff are trained in Positive Behaviour Management pro, a package of training devised from the positive behavioural support approach. This enables the team to support learners with their behaviour.
In addition, where appropriate learners have the opportunities to infill into other vocational/creative/sport sessions will be arranged as appropriate for each individual.
Each student has a specialist SEND personal tutor who works with them, their circle of support and relevant external agencies to plan and review their progress towards their aspirations at regular intervals.
An extensive transition and assessment process will ensure this provision is appropriate for each learner’s needs.

Entry Requirements
No formal entry requirements are needed within Foundation learning. All learner’s are considered on an individual basis and matched to a course that is best placed to meet their needs and support their outcomes and move them towards their aspirations.
