Musical Theatre, Diploma/Extended Diploma
Level 3
This course is ideal if you have a passion for working on the stage. It will give you the skills and knowledge needed to pursue further studies and a career in musical theatre. The course has a strong emphasis on practical work so you will experience all aspects of performance and develop skills in acting, dancing, and singing to help you become a triple-threat performer. You will develop and advance your skills in our specialist studios, equipped with full mirrors and sprung floors. The number and size of dance studios available to you exceed that of most universities, and our place within the town centre means you will also be given the opportunity to perform in local theatres.
You will be taught by professional artists with extensive experience in the industry, and your lecturers will fully support you in developing confidence, interpersonal skills, and good working practices, all of which will improve your employability. You will also study subjects including script analysis, actors voices and a range of dance techniques to increase your knowledge and understanding of the musical theatre industry. The diploma will be completed in year 1 and the extended diploma in year 2.
As part of our collaborative community, you will devise powerful and engaging pieces of work and then deliver dynamic performances, here in our purpose-built spaces, and in local theatres. You will also be given the opportunity to take residential trips to London and New York, to experience inspirational workshops and performances in the West End and on Broadway.
You’ll become part of our Creative Arts Career Excellence Hub, which is endorsed by leading industry partners, who are actively involved throughout your whole training programme. This provides unrivalled access to potential employers and the opportunity to develop your creative network. You will benefit from theatre trips, work experience opportunities and masterclasses from renowned performers. As part of this study programme, you will develop your maths and English skills, attend tutorials and Individual Development (ID). You will also complete an extended industry placement. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview.
Become part of Creative Arts Weston, a career-focused College and University Centre, housed within a vibrant and supportive environment, which encourages collaboration with your peers, lecturers and the creative industries to give you the skills and opportunities you need to kick-start your career.
