The Criminology Diploma provides a fascinating insight into the field of criminology, equipping you with a solid foundation for further studies and a rewarding career in the criminal justice system, in areas such as the probation service, policing and the courts and tribunals service.
On successful completion of this course, learners will be automatically enrolled onto the second year. Together, this 2 year qualification is equivalent to one A Level.
Criminology includes elements of psychology, law, and sociology. You will delve into the causes, consequences, and responses to crime, gaining a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding criminal behaviour and societal responses. You'll have the opportunity to analyse and critically evaluate research studies, case studies, and real-life examples, enhancing your analytical and research skills.

In the first year of your course, you'll have the opportunity to follow a pathway that aligns with your career aspirations. Choose from options such as debating, and challenging the past, to provide you with additional skills and experiences to enhance your career prospects.
WHAT DOES THIS COURSE INVOLVE
The programme leads to the development of knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice system, and awareness of the cause and effects of different types of crime. You will also examine theories that explain behaviours, and the reasons why people commit crime.
The programme will enable you to develop a range of transferrable skills including independent research skills, problem solving, presentation skills and the ability to work collaboratively.

ASSESSMENT METHOD
50% of the assessment is through externally marked examinations and 50% is through internally marked controlled assessments.
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
This course will support access to higher education degree courses in the social sciences such as Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, and Law. You could also progress to the degree in BA (Hons) Uniformed and Public Services at University Centre Weston.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Five GCSEs at grades 9-4, including English and maths.
