WHAT DOES THIS COURSE INVOLVE
You will have the opportunity to combine on-the-job training with study in a college environment. You will start by learning the basics across several different areas. For one or two days per week in the first year, you will be taught the technical knowledge and practical competencies needed to complete your apprenticeship.
Depending on the company that you work for, your apprenticeship will cover several different disciplines such as turning, milling in the machine shop, CAD or CAM, CNC machining, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical and electronics, maintenance, materials science, programmable logic controllers, composites, fabrication, and welding.
You will also be responsible for keeping a high quality of your work, ensuring it is completed safely and to the budget requirements.
ASSESSMENT METHOD
You will be assessed through workplace observations and practical tests. You will also complete online tests, assignments and produce a portfolio of evidence. This will be part of your end-point assessment.
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
Most students will progress into a technician-level position. You could also progress onto higher education, such as the degrees or degree apprenticeships on offer at University Centre Weston.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
3 GCSEs at grade 4 or higher including maths, English and science, or equivalent.
