Social Care, BTEC Extended Diploma
The Social Care BTEC Extended Diploma is a comprehensive programme designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the field of social care. This engaging and practical course offers a deep understanding of the principles, theories, and practices involved in supporting individuals with diverse needs. Throughout the diploma, you will develop key skills and knowledge necessary for working in various social care settings, such as residential care homes, community outreach programs, or disability services. You will have two pathway options in year 2 – Health Care and Social Care. These allow you to take a tailored approach to your career and select the best opportunities for progression. Year 1 of this qualification will provide you with the theoretical and practical underpinnings for your chosen industry pathway in year 2.
With a strong emphasis on hands-on learning, you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge through work placements and practical assessments. By completing the Social Care BTEC Extended Diploma, you will be well-prepared to pursue a fulfilling career in the social care sector.

The two-year programme will develop your knowledge and practical skills in a wide range of industry subjects. Units include anatomy and physiology, development through the life stages, safe practice, research methods, dementia care, mental health, psychological perspectives, sociological perspectives and working with additional needs.
As part of this study programme, you will develop your maths, English, and digital skills, attend tutorials and Sim practical sessions. You will also complete industry work placements and build a vocational portfolio over the two-year programme. This gives you the opportunity to gain your care certificate. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview.
ASSESSMENT METHOD
We’ll assess your coursework (projects, assignments, and presentations) and your practical activities both in college and at your industry placement. There are also four exams over the two years.
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
This programme will enable you to progress to the degree in Integrated Mental Health and Social Care or Health and Social Care Practice at University Centre Weston. Alternatively, you can progress to university in health or social care related fields, or gain employment in a variety of areas, including youth work, family support worker, home care social worker, counselling, or personal care assistants. ## ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
5 GCSE’s including English or Maths at a 4, and a 4 in science, preferably biology. If they are resitting English or Maths, grade on entry must be a 3. English language is a requirement at a 3 for resit, or 4 for exemption.
